The organizers of the Madrid circuit, set to host the Spanish Grand Prix in 2026, have officially revealed the track layout. The circuit, dubbed "Madring," is designed to integrate both public roads and facilities surrounding the IFEMA exhibition center, promising a unique challenge for Formula 1 drivers and teams. The 22-corner configuration is highlighted by a distinctive, high-banked corner named 'La Monumental' with a 24% banking angle.
La Monumental' is expected to be a focal point of the race, offering a thrilling spectacle for an estimated 45,000 fans in the surrounding grandstands. Drivers will navigate this section at high speeds, experiencing significant g-forces as they tackle the banked curve. The design draws inspiration from iconic corners such as the Luyendyk corner at Zandvoort, aiming to create a similarly memorable and challenging experience for drivers and a visual spectacle for spectators. After exiting this corner, drivers will encounter a prime overtaking opportunity at Turn 13.
With a blend of technical corners, high-speed straights, and the signature banked corner, the "Madring" circuit aims to deliver an exciting and unpredictable race. The event also has the backing of local driver Carlos Sainz, acting as an ambassador, who has attended events for its official launch. The race in Madrid will initially run alongside the Barcelona race, but the Barcelona circuit's long-term future is not assured. The incorporation of the new circuit represents a significant step forward in F1's ongoing efforts to create engaging and unique racing experiences for fans worldwide.
